The Taryn L. Gordon Community Service Scholarship is awarded year-round to prospective undergraduates or currently enrolled students of a four-year University in the amount of $1,500 each. The scholarship program was designed for the advancement of citizenship & community development, directed towards support for social & community infrastructure. Individuals that have demonstrated remarkable service through any outreach program, community involvement, or capacity building affiliation will be recognized for their achievements through this award. * The Taryn L. Gordon Community Service Scholarship is not limited to any specific field or career objective and may be used to pursue any academic discipline. Restrictions do not apply on the basis of race, ethnicity, financial need, religion, or gender.

Growing up working and being involved first hand in church activities instilled consistency of morals, guidance, a personal zeal towards service to others, as well as, a strong faith in God. It was because of my involvement in the church that I was able to surround myself with others that were connected to the ethic of community building and civic-mindedness, which in turn helped to build my faith, courage, and drive. I was able to grow, learn, become empowered, and have enough courage in my own personal faith to extend what I had learned. With the knowledge and experiences of my life, I ventured out and began a faith-based student group that proved to be one of the most successful student organizations on DePaul University’s campus. “Out of the fourteen years that I have worked at DePaul, I have never witnessed an organization having the success that this ministry has had on the students and university. On Taryn’s departure from DePaul, she will indeed have left a legacy,” quoted by former director of UMIN, Robert Ludwig.

Today, my vision is to be able to cultivate the same potential in others that have done a service to the people in our society through community capacity building & social investment. Those willing and have the generous hearts ready to give back through their lives to the welfare of others, to thus shape & enrich our world will be honored through this community service scholarship award.
